What Is a Flush Plate?

A flush plate is the button panel you press to flush a toilet with a hidden cistern. It sits on the wall or furniture unit in front of the cistern and connects to its flush valve. Because it is the only part of the cistern you see, it has a big effect on how the toilet looks.

Dual Flush Explained

Most flush plates have two buttons. The smaller one releases a reduced flush for liquid waste, and the larger one releases a full flush. Using the right button each time is an easy way to cut water use in a busy household.

Check Compatibility First

Flush plates are not universal. The plate must suit the type of cistern behind it, its actuation method and the size of the access opening. Before you order, check the cistern make and model, the opening size and whether the plate is operated by cables, rods or air. Each product page lists what the plate is designed to fit.

Round or Square Styles

Round buttons give a softer, more traditional feel, while square buttons and plates suit sharp, modern bathrooms. Matching the shape of your flush plate to your taps and accessories helps the whole room look planned.

Finishes

Chrome is the most common finish and is easy to keep clean. Brushed, matt and coloured finishes are popular for statement bathrooms. Choose a finish that matches your other fittings so the plate does not look like an afterthought.

Part of a Concealed Installation

A flush plate works with a concealed cistern, which is often mounted on a wall hung toilet frame. If you are planning a new installation, choose the cistern and frame first, then a flush plate that suits them.
