Everything Around the Toilet

Toilet fittings cover the parts that make a toilet work and the details that make it look finished. Whether you are replacing a worn seat or planning a new wall hung toilet, it helps to know which part does what.

Seats and Levers

A new toilet seat is the quickest way to refresh a toilet. Measure your pan and check the fixing type before you order. If your cistern is on show, a flush lever in the same finish as your taps completes the look, and traditional toilets can use flush kits to connect a raised cistern to the pan.

Hidden Cisterns and Flush Plates

Back to wall and wall hung toilets hide the cistern behind a wall or unit. A concealed cistern does the work out of sight, and a flush plate is the only part you see. Flush plates must suit the cistern they operate, so check compatibility first.

Frames and Connections

A floating toilet is held by a wall hung toilet frame, which is fitted before the wall is boarded. Every toilet also needs a pan connector to join the pan outlet to the soil pipe, usually 110mm in the UK.

Planning Your Installation

For a new concealed installation, choose the frame and cistern first, then the flush plate and pan connector. For a simple refresh, a seat and lever in a matching finish can make an older toilet look much newer.
